To all and singular as well nobles and gentles as others who come by these letters present do Their Excellencies, Bjarki and Asta, known as the Baron and Baroness of Caer Galen, send greetings and due recommendations as it appertaineth. Equity wills and reason ordains that the lamp of learning which is lit by the fires of knowledge and fed with both steady hands and constant mindfulness shall not be hidden under a bushel nor buried in a back room but rather should be placed upon a pedestal of high honour so that it may provide vision and warmth for all who come to bask in its glow. Therefore, to further enlighten and educate those who have interest as well as provide due and just recognition for the hard labours of Our beloved gentles, We, the aforesaid Baron and Baroness of Caer Galen, do hereby proclaim that an Academy, Exhibition and Faire dedicated to the Arts and Sciences be held upon the feast of St. John the Almoner. Further, We declare that, with the counsel of Our advisors and His Supreme and Illustrious Highness, the Doge, We shall choose a supreme artisan who We shall invest as Our Champion, as well as to proclaim the victors of the Patronage Prize. To these ends and in witness thereof, We the aforesaid Baron and Baroness of Caer Galen do hereby set Our signe manual on this 31st day of Decembre in the reign of King Bela the thirde and Queen Anna. If you wish to teach a class please contact our Academic Dean with the following information:
- Name of teacher
- Title of class
- Short description of class
- Limit (if any) on number and/or age of participants
- Needed supplies or cost of supplies/handouts
- Other needs for class (power, projector screen, etc)
Exhibition
An exhibition is a demonstration and display of talents and skills. This year's exhibition shall be no different, with Their Excellencies calling upon the Barony's finest artisans and craftsmen to bring the results of their study and hard work for all to see what wondrous things are wrought in Caer Galen. All entrants will have the option of:
- being judged as per Kingdom A&S judging standards
- being critiqued with commentary only (no scores)
- entering their piece for display only
To further spur on individuals to greater feats of artistic prowess, there shall be held no less than three separate competitions.
Baronial Arts and Sciences Champion
To be considered for the title of the Caer Galen A&S Champion, you must enter in at least three categories for Kingdom A&S standard judging. Documentation is required. The winner shall be decided by the Baronage, with the consultation of the judges scores and records. By tradition, the entrant with the highest average score in three (or more) categories has been chosen by the Baronage. Caer Galen Peers Challenge
It is commonly known that an artist is their own harshest critic. The challenge, therefore, is for the peers of Caer Galen, known as some of the finest artisans in the Kingdom, to bring their finest work so that everyone can see exactly why that reputation is so deserved. Caer Galen Patronage Prize
Throughout history, patronage of the Arts and Sciences has helped expand their scope and achievements as well as bring recognition and fame to their sponsors. The goal of the Caer Galen Patronage Prize is to elevate the areas of Arts and Sciences within the SCA by providing an annual competitive event backed by a financial incentive. Please see the Patronage Prize page for details.
To enter any of the competitions, please send the following information to the Exhibition Coordinator by January 10th, 2010:

- Title of Entry
- Level of Judging (see above)
- Space Requirements
Nota bene: Arts and Letters entries are to be submitted in hardcopy and/or e-copy (pdf or Word format) to the Exhibition Coordinator by January 10th, 2010. This is to provide the judges ample time to give the entries the consideration and reflection due. Other entries will be accepted the day of the event, but pre-registration is highly encouraged. A small kitchen will be available if one wishes to prepare part of a culinary entry on site.
Faire
Come to the great, cold Faire of Caer Galen. While artisans dazzle with their works at the Exhibition and our lectors enlighten at the Academy, the Faire offers to delight the senses, entertain the mind, and lighten the purse. Throughout Champagne, the faire was the premier trading event and brought people from all over the countryside. Not only a market for trading uncompared, it was a gala for those who came. Dancers, jongeleurs, acrobats, jugglers and actors all entertained. We wish to recreate that atmosphere if for but a day. More could be said, but our Faire Master, Maestro Massimilliano, has sworn all to secrecy.
Are you a merchant? Would you like to participate in this unique and storied occasion? Well then, you are in luck.
Amenities include:
- Separate merchant gate and early on-site entrance
- Porters to assist in the loading and unloading of wares
- Additional merchant fees waived by order of Their Excellencies
- Stalls are pre-equipped with a table and chair for convenience
- Merchants located in the center of the Faire, surrounded by the aforementioned festivities
- Did we mention porters to assist in the loading and unloading of wares? Why yes, we did.
Lunch
There will be a pot luck dayboard set up from approximately 11:00 until the food runs out so that students, entrants, judges and merchants can all eat. Please contact the Event Steward if you will be bringing a dish to share.
Note that the kitchen will be available for use for a culinary entry as needed.

- From the North: Take I-25 to 119. Follow 119 / Diagonal Hwy into Boulder. Turn South (left) onto 28th Street. Turn West (right) onto Valmont Rd. The church is on the southwest corner of Valmont and Folsom.
