Pageantry & Prowess Tournament (Rapier 1v1)
Find a herald, gather your entourage, dress your best, proclaim your love, and make your most worthy challenges!
This tournament consists of two parts, a grand procession, followed by the feat of arms.
The Procession
Herald to announce (there might be heralds available at the opening of the tournament, or you can herald yourself in...)
Who you are
Titles and awards
Any challenges you care to make
The entourage can include
Partner/spouse/consort
Cadets and/or provosts
Standard bearers
Musicians
If you have passed arms, use it to style your entourage. If you have a badge passed, use it. Sashes, capes, and tabards are but a few examples that can help unify your entourage.
Tournament format
Best two out of three fights, double elimination
Panache & Valor - The Gurkenlandschaft Bannerete (Rapier 5v5 Melee)
This is a small team tournament melee similar in concept to a pas d’armes.
Teams will consist of 5 fighters, having up to two MoDs, Knights, White Scarves, or Theigns, in any combination (one peer and one GoA, two peers, two GoA’s, etc.)
Each team shall designate a captain who will speak for the team.
Each team will be given 4 tokens to be used in voting for the most valorous team, and the team with the most panache (victory conditions described below).
This is a team endeavor, so it is highly encouraged that teams make a concerted effort to have a unifying identity so that nobility and populace can identify who is who. Consider...
A common theme in dress
Passed arms or a badge can tie a team together (and is very period)
Sashes, capes, or tabards
All teams need to be gathered and ready to go when the processional is announced.
Tournament Format
Single fight, double elimination if enough teams are registered, otherwise single fight, round robin
Victory conditions
Prowess shall be awarded to the team with the most wins in the tournament
The other two victories will be decided as follows-
Near the tournament field will be a collection of boxes, two per team, marked with each team's name. One box is for valor, the other is for panache
Each team will be supplied with four tokens
At any time during the tournament, a team captain can vote for any other teams valor and panache
The Crown, Landed Nobility, and visiting dignitaries (such as The Ladies of the Rose) that are in attendance shall have the opportunity to vote as well
At the end of the tournament, the boxes shall be opened and the votes tallied. The most votes in each category will determine the winner of each category.
A team can be awarded multiple victories
Gurkenlandschaft Cut & Thrust Tournament (1v1)
Weapon aficionados, this is a tournament for you.
A variation of the Swiss 5, throwing in "choose the weapon” and "three landed blows / cuts".
For single handed styles only cuts will count as points.
For two handed sword or spear, thrusts count as a point.
Each landed cut or thrust count as a point depending on the style drawn.
There will be 4 or 5 rounds before the semifinal elimination depends on timing. Four with most landed blows go to the semifinals, which are the same format per bout but best two out of three, single elimination.
In the case of a double point landing, both count. If it's the final point in the prelims bout ends 3-3. If it's the semis or the finals... One more point to first blood.
Choice of weapons.
When the herald reads the list, and the combatants pair up, the one with the lower precedence chooses the weapon that the match (meaning all three bouts) will be fought with:
Single Rapier
Rapier and dagger
"Short" sword (blade under 35") and buckler
Two Handed Sword
Spear
If combatants have equal precedence, a coin toss will determine who gets to choose weapon style.
Don't choose the same weapon twice unless it's an authorization issue. We won't keep track of that, it's on your honor. You might end up fighting the same style twice anyway depending on your rank and what your opponents pick; that is by design. There will only be 4-5 rounds before the semifinal elimination, so you might not be fighting with every style; which is by design.
Reise des Mutes (Voyage of Valor) (Armored 1v1)
Much like its counterpart for rapier...
Partner, if any (similar to a consort)
Any challenges you care to make
The entourage can include
Partner/spouse
Cadets and/or provosts
Standard bearers
Musicians
If you have passed arms, use it to style your entourage
If you a badge passed, use it
Tournament style is a single combat bear pit.
Drei-Mann-Übergangsritus (three man rite of passage) (Armored 3v3 Melee)
Tournament style:
Three man melee composed of yourself and two companions. Knights are limited to one per team so choose your fellow fighters wisely!

Äxte, Messer, und Speere (oh my!) Gurkenlandschaft Thrown Weapons Champion
Who is ready to throw things at Gurkenlandshaft?
This site is a fabulous spot for thrown weapons with a huge number of permanent targets that will challange all! Lord Sigeric, the current Caerthe Thrown Weapons Champion, is putting together a fun and challenging tournament that includes axes, knives, and spears.
Stay tuned for format information.
We plan to have multiple targets set for axes, knives, and spears (and possibly plumbatae and sling as well) for some fun throws against Pickle Warriors and Vikings trying to steal your beer. We will also be ready to take scores for thrown weapons Royal Rounds. Come earn a rank anywhere from Novice to Weapons Masters.
For those who want to get more involved in the thrown weapons community, Master Thorvald will be holding a Thrown Weapons Line Marshal class so that we can have more marshals helping at Battlemoor.
This is the first ever Thrown Weapon Championship Tournament for Unser Hafen, Caer Galen, and Dragonsspine!
Who will champion the growth and joy of Thrown Weapons in your Barony?
Pickling competition
The pickling competition is back again! At Gurkenlandschaft this year, the pickling competition will be split into two categories! On Saturday we will have the savory pickles and on Sunday we will have the dessert pickles!
The winner of each category will be determined by populace choice. There will be a prize for each category.
Let your imagination run wild on what you can pickle and remember to bring multiple jars!
If you wish to participate, here are the rules:
Please bring a list of all ingredients. (if you don't have your ingredients list you can't enter your pickles; safety first!)
Bring multiple jars of your work. If you run out early, you'll miss votes!
Put your name on your work! You can't win if we don't know who made what.
Please take the time to check information for pickling safely.
Pick up your jars, empty or full, at the end of the competition.
Brewing competition
The brewing completion will be by populace vote. Come sample and see which you prefer, a dark beer or a hoppy beer. Do you prefer dry mead over sweet wine?
There will be three categories: beer, ciders/meads/wines, and cordials. Please bring enough to share among friends. If we run out then the populace cannot vote for your beverage, although you can take pride in knowing they enjoyed it while it lasted.
Entry into multiple categories is allowed (beer, mead/wine/cider, cordials) and encouraged. If you have two in the same category you can bring those too. Plan to have a description of your tasty creation that we will place the cup for voting next to. We will ask that you list the common ingredients so people with allergies and or taste preferences know what they can and cannot have.
There will be prizes for the top beverage in the respective categories! If your entry is period (or based on period recipe) it will receive an extra vote.
